Beautiful Nursery Décor For our beautiful baby girls!

Nurseries designed specifically for girls seem to embrace the feminine hues of pinks and yellows reflecting nature’s most vibrant spring florals, bubblegum, and ballerinas. Decorating for a girl’s nursery is like reliving our fantasies as little girls decorating our pretend nurseries for our baby dolls, and now is the moment to fashion the ultimate picture of your childhood imagination and creativity with just a mix of adult sophistication and elegance.
Girl-Power Room Themes at The House Queen
We’ll show you two themes, and decorating ideas through one of these themes.
As mentioned in some of our previous posts, Living Textiles is one of the leading names in nursery decor, and we will be showing you a couple themes they feature especially for our girls. Of course, we would never discern people from trying these themes out in a boys room or blended boy and girl room.
- Bella Butterfly: Let your baby girl be whisked away to a land of delightful butterflies and flowers in shimmering colours. Your baby girl will be able to fantasize friendly butterflies landing on the edge of her crib. Everything is provided in this theme including bed linens, cushions, curtains, valences, wall decor, and gift sets.
- Secret Garden: Do you remember reading The Secret Garden as a child? Couldn’t you just imagine yourself stumbling upon a mystical almost fairytale-like garden with roses, daisies, and enchanting creatures? Everything is provided in this theme including bed linens, cushions, wall decor, curtains, valences, and gift sets.
An example of a Bella Butterfly Room:

Featured on the right is a picture of the Bella Butterfly bookends.
Wall Decor
I picture the colour of a wall for the Bella Butterfly nursery to start off as a soft pink, purple, cream or yellow, and contain some hand paintings of little dragonflies and perhaps some flowers stemming from the ground just short of and adult’s waist height. This way when your baby girl is learning to walk, she can imagine she is standing among

flowers and flying friends! We also offer Bella Butterfly removable decor stickers that are perfect among cribs and changing tables. Many parents have learned to use stickers like these to distract a fussy baby on a changing table. We also have wooden Bella Butterfly wall plaques that just add to the cheerful serenity that Living Textiles has created through this theme.
Nursery Bedding
Bella Butterfly has everything in nursery bedding for this theme. Bedding is one of the first elements that we notice when walking into a nursery. We not only carry Bella Butterfly cot sheets, cot comforter sets, a cot waffle blanket, cot quilts and pram blankets, we also carry your cot accessories such as the bumper and mobile toy to accompany the cot!
Room Accessories
To add to the decor, as we have mentioned above, Living Textiles has created curtains and valences with this theme that would take a nursery from lovely to extraordinary. Add some additional charm by including some of the delightful Bella Butterfly cushions to a bed (if you have included a regular-sized bed in this room) or in front of a bookcase or in a window seat to create a reading nook!
Other ideas include featuring your own hand painted pictures of flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, ect framed and added to the wall to give the room an even more whimsical effect!
Keep us posted! Leave a comment letting us know your ideas for a girl’s nursery or nursery gifts.

Australia’s Living Textiles has cot bedding that sets the style for any nursery decor theme!

The most important part of education is proper training in the nursery–Plato
The best gift for our babies
is a world of colour with fantastic characters and images that awaken the imagination, a place that promotes comfort and safety while enlightening the senses. This is the world that Living Textiles creates for your nursery. Have you seen the delightful childlike imagery created from the minds of the best interior designers at Living Textiles– the imagery that has been combined with form and function to craft the best nurseries? Living Textiles is Australia’s leading name in all cot bedding, baby bath accessories, nursery decor accessories, and beautiful baby gift sets. Let’s take a look at some of the features! You will definitely want to give them first consideration when looking into your own nursery or the next best baby shower gift.
Living Textile Nursery Themes Carried by The House Queen
Living Textiles divides many of their products by theme, and this is so a room can be easily assembled together with coordinating pieces. We have listed several of our Living Textile themes below!
Bella Butterfly Retro Alphabet

Little Farm Transport

Twinkle Little Star Rocking Horse

Cot Sets and Nursery Sets by Living Textiles
As you can see, each collection has a beautiful cot set that any mother or mother-to-be would absolutely long to have in their nursery, and you may wonder what constitutes a cot set before you get ready to shop. We carry both cot bedding and bassinet bedding. A bassinet or Moses bed is the small cradle-type bed normally portable to be kept in any room near a parent. We do have bassinet bedding sets, specific to these unique beds.
Cots, also known as cribs, are much larger, less portable, and have a full sized cot mattress that our cot bedding specifically fits. Our cot sets do come in three piece to six piece sets, and we also have many coordinating pieces such as pram waffle blankets, cot valances, cot bumpers, plush cot blankets, cot quilts, and more. These sets are designed to grow with an infant. Light blankets with little to no plushness are intended to protect infants from SIDS, since there is little risk of suffocation. We have listed an article at the end of this post to recommend certain types of bedding for newborns. Safety and style definitely go hand in hand.

Decorating for our babies with the beauty of our natural surroundings:

When it comes to nursery decor for our baby girls, we may be too quickly inspired to stick pinks against pinks with no nursery accent colour other than one shade of pink against the other. Why not create a whimsical nursery inspired by the beauty of nature? Mint green is an understated green that can be used everywhere from the walls to an accent colour in pink bedding that brings a refreshing sense of nature into a nursery. Right now, interior decorators have been favouring this classic colour combo that is destined to remain timeless in interior design.
Some of us are just a bit weary of incorporating strong green tones into home decorating. We can still see signs of avocado greens in refrigerators and bathroom countertops that haunt us from a bygone era; however, a refreshing crisp mint green, several shades brighter and lighter than the 1960s-70s green provides the most understated natural beauty when paired with garden roses in a nursery setting.
The Bella Butterfly and Secret Garden collections by Australia’s leading nursery linens company, Living Textiles, combines floral pinks with light refreshing greens. These colours are paired together in the cot bedding, window curtains and valences, pillows and nursery cushions, character wall plaques, wall stickers, quilts, cot sheets, and so much more. For example, here is a sample cot bumper and cot bedding set from the Secret Garden collection.

Wall colour is a great way to introduce light green hues into the room. Unlike pink that is specifically characteristic of nursery decorating, light green can grow with a child and even work when a room must be shared with a little boy. Bold greens may be a little too overbearing, but a light refreshing green will maintain the feminine feel. Here are some shade samples:

Add some whimsey with a gorgeous little chandelier, a lamp with a pastel pink or floral shade to provide a comforting night light, and wall decor to bring enchantment from the outdoors in. The curtains featured in the Bella Butterfly and Secret Garden collections are both perfect for this style. Living Textiles provides all of the nursery accessories and cot bedding needed to finish the style.
There are several crafty ways you can easily incorporate this delightful colour scheme into your nursery decor without breaking the bank. For example, a white, pink or natural wood bookcase could be lined in the back behind the shelves with green and pink-patternered wallpaper. Large white bows can provide a crisp neutral colour to the cot and backs of chairs.
A little girl would be fortunate to grow up in room decor so beautiful. With this nursery, your daughter will have a place to treasure for years before outgrowing her nursery theme.

Delight the mind and body and inspire the senses…with great design, quality and innovation for everyday luxury (Sheridan)
We have an exciting and highly anticipated announcement to make! The House Queen has just added the Sheridan bedding collection to our inventory of high quality Australian designer brand collection of bed linens, sheets, quilt covers, duvets and doona covers, and even luxury towels! With this addition means new designs inspired by modern art, the essence of nature, and the charm of timeless looks.
Adding a new brand name to our collection is by no means an easy feat. We have searched high and low for only the best materials, the best names in Australian housewares, and the most timeless and trendy looks in today’s decor. Companies rarely make the cut for any of our collections (from bedding to nurseries to the dining room), but Sheridan stood out as a definite example of high class appeal above the others.
Sheridan says,
The current range of beautiful bed linen, towels and bedding basics from Sheridan reflects a proud creative and innovative heritage spanning over 40 years.
One quality, among many, that we love so much about Sheridan is the versatility of design. Sheridan has divided their patterns and designs into different categories.
Deluxe Living is a collections of elegant and traditional designs that accompany almost any theme. These designs range from elaborate to simple, but every thing is just breathtakingly gorgeous.
Mode Living is a collection of bedding for the modernists and contemporary lovers. These designs help define a room for who a person is artistically and creatively. All of these modern-inspired designs explore texture, colours, pattern and sensibility to give a room a bit of a designer ‘edge’.
Easy Living blends traditional with contemporary for a whole new dimension in bedding design. These designs were made with mix match versatility in mind, so the interior designer within you can delight yourself with rearranging and restyling your bed with different sheet and pillow case colour combos throughout the year. Sheridan says that the Easy Living collection is, “arranged in bold, imaginative medleys of pattern, colour and texture.”
Finally, the Junior collection is a fabulous collection of bedding for
youth. Sheridan says, ‘brighten any child’s bedroom with the vivacious colour and pattern of the Junior collection, characterised by whimsical themes, nostalgic motifs and a bright, coordinating colour palette across the range. This easy-care cotton bed linen collection, including charming accessories, is the perfect playground for kids of all ages.”
All four of these categories are intermingled among our entire bedding collection, but we just wanted to introduce what type of styles are represented by Sheridan.
We are so very excited to share Sheridan’s luxury bed linens with you! This August, you will see the entire bedding collection featured in the monthly specials. To find Sheridan bedding on our website, just CLICK HERE!

Refresh Your Bed with Crisp New Sheets
Bed sheets aren’t the bed linens hidden from their glory–they’re the most important aspect of the bedding experience. They are the soft touch against skin and the breathable layer of warmth that also contribute to the design of your bed and bedroom decor. Sheets in luxurious Egyptian cotton comfort the soul, sheets in satin are tantalizing to the touch and sheets in linen are the timeless luxury with multiple health benefits. High quality sheets are the essential component in dressing up a bed.
High quality sheets are something to enjoy for many years. The intricately woven threads of high thread count sheets are meant to withstand multiple washings and resist piling the way that low thread count sheets do, and this is one reason why we only buy from manufactures that exclusively make luxury, high quality sheets.

Go for a hotel look!
Use Sheets to Create a Serene Motif
One of the biggest appeals in bedroom design right now is to create a hotel-inspired look using sheets, classic or contemporary quilt covers, bedspreads, throw rug, and accent pillows. Designers use pillows in the same colours or slightly varying tones as the sheets and quilt covers to balance the colour scheme. The look is irresistibly inviting. We actually carry hotel inspired sheet designs such as the Hotel-Weight Luxury Bed Sheet Sets made by Sheridan. Pair these sheets with a quilt cover in a fabulous design that fits your personality, a bed skirt, and decorative pillows and cushions, and you can pull off that luxury five-star hotel look in your own bedroom.
There aren’t any differences between cotton sheets, satin sheets and linen sheets as far as quality is concerned, and the choice you make between these fabrics depends on personal preference.

Linen Sheets by Pure Linen
Linen sheets are known for being particularly breathable while still maintaining warmth. They provide ample heat, but breathe more so than other fabrics allowing them to stay cool as well. They are also hypoallergenic, extremely durable, and provide a number of health benefits that we have outlined in a previous article posted below.
Cotton, cotton sateen and Egyptian cotton sheets have been the popular standard in bed linens. Cotton, also very durable and breathable, is extremely soft and easy to care for. Egyptian cotton sheets, like many of the options we carry, are considered to be the ultimate in luxury, and at one time they were only available in the most exclusive stores at more than $500-600 minimum for a set of sheets. Now, they are a little more readily available, but still as high in quality and luxury as ever before.
Satin sheets have been described as an experience similar to swimming in chocolate, a girl’s dream, a silky sensation. Satin sheet sets are so finely smooth that they really do seem to glisten between bed covers. Satin sheets will be a little more warm than linen or cotton, because of the highly-highly woven threads, which help create that smooth feel, and the experience is truly wonderful.
Some of the brand names that we carry in bed sheet sets include: Sheridan (NEW), Pure Linen Luxury Bedding, Logan & Mason Bedding, Bambury Bedding and Espirit Bedding.
If you need help choosing your next set of sheets, do let us know! We will help you pick out that perfect set for your style and tastes or help you decide on the perfect sheets for a gift.

“The master bedroom is our retreat, not so much from the kids, but with the kids. We snuggle, read, have pillow fights. We couldn’t live without a king-size bed”–Jenny Keenan, Better Homes and Gardens, April 2010.
The master bedroom may be a place buzzing with activity for a family with young children. At some point, Mum and Dad’s bed may become a place for snuggles and story time before bed, cartoons on a Saturday morning before the pancakes are ready, and the place to hide during scary storms. A bed with so much character should definitely match in comfort. Crafting a comfortable bed is our speciality, and you are one quick click away from dressing up your bed with soft and luxurious bedding. You don’t even have to leave your bed!
At The House Queen, we consider ourselves experts in making a bed that you will want to cuddle up in and perhaps think twice about leaving! The first step in making the bed is to cover your box springs. Some people prefer simple mattress covers or mattress protectors and others prefer more decorative bed valances or bed skirts. If you have allergies, you may want to consider a hypoallergenic mattress cover. A bed skirt or bed valance is a wonderful way to hide unsightly bed hardware, and we have them available in many different styles from modern contemporary to ruffled romantic. If you don’t have a box spring mattress, just skip ahead to the next step!
Let’s move up to your mattress. You will want to include a mattress pad. Mattress toppers are an excellent way to provide extra support for your back, particularly with older mattresses, and protects the mattress from liquids, basic wear and tear, dirt, bacteria and other allergens. We have several options that you may want to consider for your particular comfort preference, material, warmth level, and health concerns. Because we specialize in Australian manufactured bed linens, we carry brands such as Logan & Mason who are famous for their woolen underlays among their many other wonderful bedding options, Crestell who produces luxurious mattress underblankets made of wool or cotton among their other many products, and Australian Feather Mills who specializes in down feather underlays. These things will help you have a great night’s sleep!
(On a side note, in our collection of bedding for young children, we have waterproof mattress protectors made by Smart-Dri, a division of Living Textiles, available for the bassinet, cot, or single bed sizes.)
Now’s the time to get creative! You have sheets, quilts, comforters, duvets, doona covers, decorative pillows, regular pillows, pillow shams, pillow cases, throws and more. This is up to you! Your bed is your artistic palette. There are so many patterns, styles, themes, designs available from sheets to doonas to decorative pillows…we have so many options for you that you may want to give yourself a few choices at home.
The fitted sheet is going to go on first. Like a shower cap, you want to make sure you have the correct size for your particular bed. The flat sheet follows, and then continue with your optional bedding including an electric blanket if you so choose, quilt, comforter or bedspread, or a duvet (also known as a doona cover).
Don’t forget your pillows!
Pillow protectors, like the mattress protector, protects your pillow from stains and basic wear and tear. The pillow with the pillow cover goes inside of your pillow case or pillow sham.
We think that all of these components will create a showroom quality piece with the comfort you and your family deserves during story time!

Bambury Cushions in Wintery Tones
Does your inner interior decorator beam with excitement when a new season approaches?
Winter is a great reason to temporarily redesign the entire house to better fit the feel of the seasons. Before you know it, the weather will be getting chillier and you will want the cosy atmosphere!
The House Queen Home Decorating Tip One- Heavy Fabrics

Whites and blacks together are so classy, so elegant, and so wintery!
As people are becoming more eco-friendly and economical, we’re seeing a decrease in heating unit use. To conserve energy and to create a sense of warmth, use heavy fabrics around the house. Keep your eye out for throws, and heavy curtains. Heavy curtains will also block out draft from windows better than spring and summertime curtains. Stay warm with our array of heavy throw rugs that should grace the arms and backs of couches for when you’re ready to have some hot tea and a good snuggle. Add a few more bed linens; we offer affordable solutions to wintertime bed linen layering. Our down duvet comforters provide amazing warmth.
The House Queen Home Decorating Tip Two- Embellish with Warmth!
Look out for comforters, bed sheets, cushions, and pillows that all have vibrant warm colours or festive wintery designs. When you toss extra pillows and cushions to your couches and beds, you are easily adding season-appropriate colours that draw the eye around the room while simultaneously creating a more cosy feeling all throughout your home. When I think of warmth particularly for a nursery, I think of our sheepskin auskin made by Infantcare. So soft and SO luxurious!
Just a note, decorative pillows and cushions are some of the most wonderful gifts for family, friends, and co-workers. Everybody loves them and everyone uses them!
The House Queen Home Decorating Tip Three- Winter-Inspired Décor

Even though physical warmth is important, winter is too beautiful to hide some of that icy cool appeal throughout your home décor. Shades of blues, white, blacks, and even brown seem to speak the wintery weather. Play this up through your dining room décor with a wintery coloured tablecloth by Pure Linen and placemats, napkins, and other table linens in cool greys, blues, whites, and blacks from Rapee or Pure Linen.
A popular theme in decorating right now is taking nature indoors. A tall glass vase could contain some beautiful bare sticks collected from the ground. A bare stick definitely says winter. Seeds or nuts can fill the bottom of the vase. Or if you want to go back to the warm tones, a vase with bright red beads and a white pillar candle may be more cosy feeling.
Try these ideas in your home! How do you like to create the warm or cool vibes felt in winter?

A Place to Dream-A Place for Imagination

Girl's Room by Living Textile's
A child’s imagination so vivid and delightful, and so wouldn’t it be wonderful if their bedroom décor reflected or fostered this magic? If you are considering redecorating or remodelling your child’s room, or even if you plan on getting gifts for a child’s room, the most powerful concepts are those that can easily adapt to various stages in a child’s life. Our Living Textiles collection provides all this and more.
One of the most practical and beautiful home furnishings that you can incorporate into a child’s bedroom whether for a nursery or for a ‘tween’ are bookshelves or wardrobes either with open shelving or doors. Not only can you keep your darling Living Textiles stuffed animals or books framed in with our whimsical Living Textile Bookends, but you can also store your children’s quilts or bedding sets folded neatly on the shelves. As lovely as bedding collections are it would be a shame to store them out of sight.

Boy's Room by Living Textiles
The next thing to consider is your colour scheme. Touches of colour can be added anywhere from wall colour, bedding sets, curtains and children’s wall decorations. We feature special wooden wall plaques and removable stickers that easily accompany themed room décor. You can even add a name or saying on the wall with vibrantly coloured wooden wall letters. Other easy ways to add colour and elegance are in the smallest details. For the curtains and valances in a girls bedroom, like those we feature, try tying ribbons where the curtain rings are for a soft feminine touch.
One of the easiest and affordable ways to add dramatic touches to a child’s room décor are our great character cushions that can either be put on a bed, in a window seat or near a bookshelf to make a reading nook.
And for the big finale, the bed! Children’s bedding sets and bed sheets can be so much fun to shop for. Quilts are particularly great for a boy or girl. Quilts are oftentimes given as gifts for baby showers for their handmade appeal and quality. All bedroom linens for a child’s room make practical and affordable gifts. As your thoughts dwell on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts, remember our high quality quilts and bedspreads that your children will be able to pass down to their own children.
Hey, tell us your favourite children’s bedroom feature in our comment section!

It is nearly a year ago that The House Queen began as a small thought in my mind. I am addicted to creating a beautiful home with products that truly reflect how you feel about your life and your family.

Outback Western Australia - Just Heaven
The accounts that I have been able to open so far with fantastic suppliers has given me the opportunity to fill the website with wonderful products including all bedding, entire bathroom decor, soft furnishing for the living, dining and kitchen areas. We have around 150 duvet covers (otherwise known to Australians as Quilt Covers or Doona Covers) and around 250 different cushions.
Now because I am not yet filthy filthy rich we don’t stock any of the products here we just order when you order and presto you have your product somewhere between four and ten days. I have plans to continue adding the remainder of the products from my current suppliers and then to add a couple more entire brands like KAS so that we have even more duvet covers and cushions to choose from.
I am aiming for around 6000 items online which will make our sites one of the largest and certainly bigger than any retail outlet in Australia for home decor.
The House Queen Website is certainly a work in progress, just when I think that I have it right I learn some more and get some more stock updates and wow I have many more days worth of work to get it right again. It really is teaching me that I can’t have everything perfect ALL the time. I have taken to dreaming about orders and soft furnishings and custom made bedding including custom made sheets for boats, caravans and campers. It does not say much for my imagination when all I can dream of is sheets, let’s hope that it is just the start and I will get to the fun part of what to do on sheets later!!
One of the things I really love about my online business is that provided I have remembered my wireless thingie I can take my laptop anywhere in the world to work. We all know that the laptop does not weigh a tonne and that it is very quiet, one does not even normally get a sweat up using it.
The website is always open so officially I am always at work ready to converse and sell to my customers. I don’t need to leave home and while our three children are asleep I can work until the wee hours without disturbing anybody.
I am really looking forward to the future with The House Queen where we sell Genuine Quality Home Decor. Don’t forget that we have a $5 postage program or free postage for orders over $500. Come and visit and be super prepared for Christmas with practical gifts this year.

It has been 7 days since my last blog because I have been in damage control.
As of the 1st July when I went live with thehousequeen.com.au the website was perfect, all the categories had something in them, the links worked etc etc.
Last week I went to the sheets section of the website and alas there wasn’t any there!! After a few minutes of checking around I have found that something drastic has happened and the site looks like the gardener got to it with the whipper snipper.
I feel embarrassed and extremely frustrated because after speaking with my Website company “they don’t know what happened” and even after sending them a large list of things that needed to be fixed in my opinion immediately because I certainly did not make any changes today they still have not fixed half of the things and the website still looks disastrous with many things still not working. I CAN FEEL A TANTRUM COMING ON!!!!!!!!
Lets be happy now I have a Sahara Teal Quilt Cover on my desk today and it really is one of my favourites it is gorgeous and my customers and loving them too. I will try to attach a picture for you and the quilt cover and of the baby sleeping bags that we have to keep babies warm this winter.
Keep warm today.

Very exciting day today I have received my first batch of orders I am so excited for the future of my home decor business The House Queen (very late because of stocktake).
The Sahara Teal Quilt Cover is absolutely gorgeous the fabric feels sensational. Lucky for me I have a custom made bed and will have to have something special made from Marina at Pure Linen to fit it.
I have also just felt the Temple Organic Towels from Bambury and they are absolutely gorgeous. I have Linen and Nutmeg here and the nutmeg colour is lovely.
The other thing we have just sent out is the undulation huge beach towel from Bambury and it really is huge, could be combined for a beach shade for the whole family.
My very first order came from a lady in Kadina South Australia who worked at the Bute Shire many sleeps before me. I worked there when I was 16 for four years with the greatest boss I have ever had called Greg O’Connor. Anyway this lady does not really know me but her name rolled around and around in my brain all week.
I finally got the nerve to ask her and well the moral of the story it is a small world so just be nice to all and steer clear of the undesirable vampires that bless our lands.
I am having a lovely day I hope you are too.
I will try to get you some pictures of these products.
